The Children’s Environments Research Group (CERG) and Plan International’s Because I Am A Girl – Urban Programme (BIAAG-UP) collaborated to produce a score cards approach that supports girls, boys, community members and service providers to evaluate their communities. The evaluations and the solutions that the score card participants generate are designed to improve girls and young women’s safety and autonomous mobility in cities, while also building girls and young women’s capacities to participate in decision-making and governance. CERG-Plan’s Young Citizens’ Score Cards is an adaption of CERG’s Child Friendly Places methodology. Young Citizens’ Score Cards engage youth to discuss, collaborate, assess, plan and monitor with service providers to achieve more inclusive services for girls and boys. The Young Citizens’ Score Cards are a child-centered, inclusive, and gender sensitive way to promote active participation in community planning.
